Asiyah on the world wide web

For the final project, Asiyah had to create a website. The website was used to promote her P.R writing skills, resume, editing skills, and creative writing pieces. We were instructed to use Dreamweaver, like most assents in this class she never used that before. With the help of this assignment, she became comfortable using the application. The website shows how diverse she is. The website reflects  work that she is  proud of. In the bio on the contact pages it allows users to get an inside look on who Asiyah is. On the website, there are writing pieces written when she was an intern for the Alzheimer’s Association. There are a media release, email release, fact sheet, donation paper, and email pitch. Since that is a career that Asiyah wants to pursue, they are apart of her website.

Social media plays a huge role in the website. Social media helped  build the website. It allows the website have more substance.  There are links to all of her professional social media accounts. There is a link to Twitter, Blogger, and Youtube. The blog allows users, employers, and potential clients to see Asiyah's writing skills and opinions on certain topics. The Twitter allows users to see how Asiyah can act professionally on a social network. The Youtube allows users to see the editing and storytelling skills. Social media is a big part of Asiyah's career and social life and Asiyah is glad to have found a way she can share it professionally and personally. Since social media is tied to the website it gives people different ways of communicating with Asiyah.

When given the task to create a website, was a little intimidated. Asiyah wasn’t confident in creating the website, coding, and, creating web-ready photos. With the help of the videos, she was able to do it just fine. It consisted of covering pdf’s to jpg's, saving files, and linking them together. Her first time doing it was difficult. She stopped and started the videos over and over. With practice, it became easy to do. Asiyah would have the videos playing in real-time in the background and follow what was being said. Sometimes she would anticipate the next step Asiyah had to do and do it before it was mentioned in the video. Since we had to have 10 pieces to showcase on the website, things began to become relative and easy.

Overall, designing the website was a rewarding experience. When Asiyah finished my website she felt accomplished because she doubted that she could do it. After creating my website she noticed I had a spelling error in her header and she had to create a new one. Asiyah changed it on her portfolio and not her index. There wasn’t a video that told her how to fix it but she just thought to delete the code of the other header and just enter the new header. Little problems for this website became simple. While getting more familiar with creating a website on Dreamweaver, you get a better understanding of what to do. It was a great experience learning how to create a website, coding, and editing on photoshop. Asiyah appreciate that she has a place to showcase her work.

Quarantine Student Reflection

Creating a Youtube video may seem glamorous, but it involves a lot of work. It consists of coming up with a theme, editing, and music. Creating a movie and trailer was a great experience. Learning how to create and edit video is something that Asiyah would have never thought to do on her own. Asiyah used iMovie to create her file and it was easy. She enjoyed putting the clips together into a storyline that flowed. She feels that she used a unique theme, she titled it Covid Dream because this reality still doesn’t seem real. Hopefully like the movie this dream ends.

A few complications arose with the production of this project. When Asiyah was trying to come up with a creative theme for my movie. She wanted to come up with something that would allow viewers to understand what every day is like for me. Another difficulty was how to put the clips together. She didn’t have a lot of experience with iMovie or Adobe Premiere. She found videos on how to edit on youtube and used that as a guide for creating my movie. With the help of those videos, she learned how to use transitional edits. Asiyah also learned how to add music to the movie. Another challenging part of making a video on iMovie was figuring out how to properly convert the video into a file that could post on Youtube. She had to convert the movie too MOV. After discovering how to do it, it became easy. Most of this project was about learning new techniques.

Using video as a way to communicate can be really effective. Instead of telling your audience with words what you're trying to convey, it can be shown. In Asiyah's movie “Covid Dream,” she didn’t use any dialog. She showed herself sleeping and used an edit to let the audience know it was a dream. At the end of the movie, She woke up and the music changed. She used that technique in case the edit into the dream wasn’t clear to the audience. Another way she communicated with video is with the glove. Throughout the movie she showed herself  using a glove to open the door, get her ticket, hold on to the rail. That may communicate to the viewer that she is trying to stay safe during the pandemic. Another way she used video to communicate was cleaning the doorknobs.

In my movie, Asiyah showed herself sleeping and used an edit that would interpret that it’s a dream. She show ed herself going down the stairs and onto her  computer to go to class. She used her hand being in a glove as a theme. Before Covid, we wouldn’t wear gloves in our everyday life. In her movie, there are clips where she is wearing gloves to protect myself. She used them to open the door, pretend to hold the rail and to give and receive the ticket from the conductor. Another  technique she used to interpret a Covid student was showing the 6ft separation at the train station. Before Covid, we weren’t instructed to stay 6ft apart from each other and now we are. Signs are showing that we have to stay 6ft apart to stop the spread of the virus. She also showed the city and some people wearing a mask and others not. This is a vital part of living in a pandemic. Some people feel that wearing a mask is unnecessary and don’t wear it.

The public nature of the content of this video did not seem to affect the movie theme, it enhanced it. Since the theme was “quarantine student,”Asiyah showed myself learning from home, social distancing, temperature checks, and wearing gloves. She showed some people wearing a mask and some not wearing masks. The public nature also shows why we're still in quarantine.

Since the assignment was to show what the quarantine experience is like as a student, the movie may not be exciting. Asiyah does the same things every day, and it's boring. She wanted to challenge herself and make an interesting movie out of my repetitive life. With the help of editing and music its easy to bring life into a movie. The music embarked excitement. The music made the movie more interesting to watch. Asiyah enjoyed creating this movie. She thinks she did a good job with coming up with a theme that made sense for a short film. Asiyah enjoyed creating this movie and now she has some knowledge on how to edit videos.
